The 15th Gujarat Assembly Monsoon Session concluded on September 11 after three days of proceedings. The session, which totaled 18 hours and 32 minutes, resulted in the passage of seven government bills aimed at state development and public welfare.
Key Highlights of the Assembly Session
During the three-day session, 52 MLAs participated in various legislative discussions. Government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani confirmed that seven bills were passed within two days. The session also served as a platform for addressing matters of public importance, including:
- A special discussion held under Rule 102 regarding the Tribal Welfare Scheme.
- Statements made by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other ministers on matters of public concern under Rules 44 and 116.
- The tabling of 23 reports related to government companies, boards, and corporations, alongside one budget.
Audit Reports and Accountability
Transparency measures were a significant part of the session, with the government laying 69 notifications, two ordinances, and one statement of assurances before the House. Notably, the Comptroller and Auditor General's (CAG) audit report concerning the Jal Jeevan Mission was officially tabled. Additionally, the House reviewed one bill that received Presidential assent and five bills that received the Governor's assent.
Question Hour and Public Engagement
The legislative process included a rigorous Question Hour, where 1,356 starred questions were submitted for oral answers. Of these, 29 were selected for oral discussion in the House. Furthermore, 152 unstarred questions were received, and 88 were formally laid on the Table under Rule 87(A). The proceedings also saw active public interest, with approximately 5,246 visitors from across Gujarat attending the legislature to observe the functioning of the democratic system.
